Rock Climbing
World-class sandstone climbing in the heart of canyon country
Climbing in Moab
Moab sits at the center of one of the world's premier rock climbing regions. The area's Wingate and Navajo sandstone provides everything from splitter crack climbing to multi-pitch tower routes, drawing climbers from around the globe. Whether you're a beginner looking for your first outdoor climb or an experienced trad climber chasing desert towers, the Moab area delivers.
Indian Creek, about 45 minutes south of Moab in the Needles District corridor, is considered the crack climbing capital of the world. Hundreds of parallel-sided cracks split perfect sandstone walls, offering routes from beginner-friendly hand cracks to thin, technical finger cracks. The rock is solid, the protection is bomber, and the desert setting is unforgettable.
Closer to town, Wall Street along the Potash Road offers steep sport and trad routes on river-side cliffs, while Castle Valley is home to iconic desert towers like Castleton Tower and the Priest — multi-pitch adventures with summit views across the entire region. For sport climbers, the Ice Cream Parlor and Big Bend Bouldering areas along Highway 128 provide excellent options right along the Colorado River.
