Wilson Arch

Wilson Arch has an opening that stretches about 91 feet across and rises roughly 46 feet high, making it an impressive example of wind and water erosion on the Colorado Plateau. Named after a pioneer settler (Joe Wilson), the arch resulted from water seeping into cracks in the rock, freeze-thaw cycles, and persistent wind gradually eroding the stone until the central span was left standing, and today visitors can view it from the roadside pull-outs or hike up to stand beneath its broad curve.

To get to Wilson Arch from Moab, simply drive south on U.S. 191 for about 24–25 miles; you’ll see the impressive sandstone formation rising up on the east side of the highway with marked pull-outs where you can safely park. From the turnout, a short, informal path leads up over slickrock to the base of the arch, making it easy to step out of your car and explore this striking natural feature up close.
