About This Trail

This loop has a little of everything. Scenery, slickrock, canyons, descents, singletrack and easy access points.

Trail Description

The Navajo Rocks area is located on Highway 313 just after it finishes switch backing up on top of the mesa. This area is BLM land before getting to Dead Horse Point and Canyonland’s Island in the Sky district. There are a lot of MTB trails that have been built out in this area. If you are looking for a place to keep you pedaling all day, this is as good as anywhere in the Moab area.

Trailhead Info

The Navajo Rocks area is on Highway 313. Drive north out of Moab on Highway 191 for roughly 16 miles. Take a left on Highway 313 like you are heading towards Dead Horse Point and Canyonlands Island in the Sky. After turning onto Highway 313 you’ll follow it into a canyon. As the canyon narrows the road will bend in a couple of hairpin curves as you continue to gain elevation and reach the mesa top. The first trailhead access be shortly after the second hairpin curve with a parking area and trailhead placard.

Trail Info

Trails are color marked here on the rock. Rocky Tops – Green Dashes, Ramblin – Red Dashes, Coney Island – Yellow Dashes

This loop can be ridden in either direction. We prefer to go clockwise so you get the fun slickrock downhill on Ramblin towards the end of your ride. Begin by crossing Highway 313 from the parking lot and locate the rocky tops single track on the south side of the road.

As you start the rocky tops trail the riding is easy as it transitions from dirt to rock and slowly starts gaining elevation as it makes it way southwest. The highpoint and hardest spot of rocky tops is an exposed traverse on a sandstone butte. It’s not really that hard but sliding out here can make your day “less” fun. Eventually you’ll make the top of the sandstone butte and cut across to a nice cliff view. Eventually the trail makes its way off the mesa.

From here, several other trails criss cross the area. Stay on rocky tops until it turns into coney island and then make a right on middle earth which will take you back to Highway 313. You are halfway through the loop!

Cross the road and follow the signs for the Ramblin trail. This trail begins with a fun sandstone roller coaster ride as it starts making its way back to your car. Follow the trail until you eventually make one last climb back to the parking lot.

NOTE: This area is mostly exposed and can get very hot in the summer so plan accordingly. Bring enough snacks and water to get you through the loop.
