About This Trail
An easy, mostly level walk to the longest natural arch in North America — a 306-foot ribbon of stone that looks too thin to exist.
Local Tip
Go at first light, and not just for parking: the arch faces the sunrise, the fins glow orange, and mule deer work the washes before the crowds arrive. It also may not be there forever — Wall Arch, just down this same trail, collapsed overnight in 2008 — so the standing joke among rangers is "see it while supplies last."
Trail Description
Landscape Arch is the improbable centerpiece of Devils Garden: a span longer than a football field that thins to just six feet of rock at its narrowest. Since a 60-foot slab peeled off the underside in 1991 (caught on video by stunned hikers), the trail beneath the arch has been closed — you view it from a fenced viewpoint that still puts you close enough to feel the tension in the thing.
The walk out follows the first, easiest stretch of the Devils Garden Trail through a corridor of sandstone fins, passing short spurs to Pine Tree Arch and Tunnel Arch that add little distance and are worth the detour.
Beyond Landscape Arch the trail turns to real scrambling toward Double O Arch — a great extension for the sure-footed, but the arch itself is the payoff and it's reachable by nearly anyone.
Trailhead Info
Drive the Arches National Park scenic road to its end at the Devils Garden trailhead, 18 miles from the entrance station (about 45 minutes from Moab). Park entrance fee $30/vehicle (7 days); no timed-entry reservation is required as of 2026, but the Devils Garden lot fills by mid-morning in season and rangers close the road when it does — arrive before 8 AM or after 4 PM in spring through fall.
Trail Info
About 1.9 miles round trip on a wide, hard-packed gravel trail with gentle grades; allow an hour. Add the Pine Tree Arch and Tunnel Arch spurs for +0.5 miles total. This is the first leg of the full Devils Garden Trail (see our Devils Garden entry for the 5-mile primitive loop past Double O Arch). No shade — brutal at midday in summer.
